Kenny Brown Extreme Sub-System Install

The install of the sub frame system went very smooth. I was very impressed with the kit and it's fit. I used a Cambell House welder I picked up at Lowe's for $300. The welder worked great and the install was completed in 5 hours. The install could have taken  me a much shorter time but I had misplaced the directions and had to run home and look it up on the web which burned up about an hour. I would estimate 5 hours to do the entire job including removing the seats and carpet. Below I have written up the procedure I used to install the system.

Tools Needed:
Kenny Brown Super Sub-System
MIG Welder/Welding Wire
Socket Set
Grinder/Hacksaw
Primer
Drill
Soap Stone/Permanent Marker

Instructions:

Remove front seats and carpet. If not you will catch the car on fire. My entire interior was already removed before doing this modification.

Bolt the Super Subs to the seat bolts as instructed by the manufacture. Line the subs up so that they are in the center of each frame rail. The sub allows for some movement to line it up. Once welded this movement is gone.

Once I had these lined up I went ahead and welded them in place. I welded anywhere the sub frame touched the frame of the car. Both side front and back.

Next drill out the pop rivets located on the passenger side of the car that hold the rear brake line and the charcoal canister fuel tank line. I removed them altogether because I am running all new lines, but you can relocate them inward a bout 1 1/2" to miss the jacking rail.

Once the lines are removed take two C-Clamps and clamp the jacking rail to the skirt of the car towards the inside.

Next line up and hold the Matrix brace up to the jacking rail. Use soap stone or a marker to mark the cut off points of the Matrix brace. You will only need to cut off about a 1/2 inch or so.

Next cut the Matrix brace at the marks you have made. Next hold the Matrix brace up under the car and C-clamp it to the Sub frame bar.

Make sure everything is aligned properly and then tack weld the Matrix brace to the jacking rail. Once it's been tacked remove the C-clamps and pull the Matrix and jacking rail out. You can now weld all the way around the Matrix brace piece. Make sure you primer or paint this area before reinstalling into the car.

Once this has been completed reinstall the pieces under the car and clamp into the same location you removed it from.

Double check to make sure everything is aligned and then tack into place.

Once you have tacked it in place, make one last check of the alignment and then finish welding the kit on at all points touching the frame or brace area.

Primer or paint each weld area and that's all.
