Upgrading the Clutch Quadrant and
Cable.
- Block wheels and apply emergency brake to prevent roll and then
jack up the front of the vehicle.
- Remove drivers seat. This step is optional, but for the extra 5
minutes it will make the job much easier.
- Locate the clutch quadrant under the dash. Note the quadrant is
located above the gas pedal not the clutch pedal as you would think. There is a shaft that
runs over and above the gas pedal. The quadrant is located directly above the gas pedal.

- Once you have located the quadrant try to reposition any
wires/relays or whatever out of the way as this will be a tight space to work in as is.
- Once you have access to the quadrant you want to release the
clutch cable tension. Using the diagram below to aid in releasing the cable tension from
the quadrant. Using one finger pull down on the rear of the "Pawl" component and
then turn the quadrant clockwise to release the tension and slip the cable end off the
front snout of the quadrant. The quadrant is spring loaded so it will want to spring back
forward.

- Now pull the hair pin clips holding the quadrant and Pawl to the
quadrant pivot shaft plate. Save all pieces.
- At this time install you new quadrant onto the shaft per the
instructions provided with your kit.
- Next pop the hood and move to the engine bay area near the brake
booster and locate the clutch cable coming through the firewall from the passenger
compartment.
- You will see a medium size Philips head screw holding the clutch
cable to the firewall. Remove the screw and pull the cable from the passenger compartment.

- Next remove the screw holding the cable mounting bracket to the
frame sidemember.

- Next crawl under the car and remove the cover covering the area
where the clutch cable connects to the clutch fork. There is one bolt on the bottom and a
clip holding in the top. Remove the bolt and pull the cover down and off.

- Next pull the clip holding the cable to the transmission casing
and slide out the clutch cable from the clutch fork.

- Reinstall the new cable and cover back on the transmission in
reverse order you removed them.
- Feed the cable into the passenger compartment through the firewall
hole and connect to the quadrant as instructed by the instruction that came with your kit.
- Reinstall seat if you removed it.
- Adjust the pedal according to the instruction provided with your
kit.
- Once the clutch has been adjusted let the car down and your all
set.
Below are pictures that were
submitted by (Todd). The quadrant kit he used was a Steeda adjustable unit.
Some notes Todd pointed out with the Steeda kit
were that the new adjustable cable end was to long a came in contact with the clutch fork
dust cover. You will be required to remove the cover for good or cut the adjustable bolt
on the end of the cable. Also Todd noted that when installing the new cable into the
firewall adjuster four nibs had to be cut off the cable insulator to allow the cable to
seat correctly.

Here are shot of the before and after pictures of the firewall adjuster and new cable.

Here are shots of the dust cover and clutch cable connection point on the clutch fork.

Here are shots of the Steeda kit and a comparison shot of the two quadrants.

Here are before and after shots of the quadrant in place. Note the tight are you will be
working in, you can barley see the quadrant.

Here is a comparison shot of the two cables. Note how much thicker the aftermarket cable
is (left) than the stock cable (right). Here is also a shot of Todd's dog who seems to
enjoy the new low ride feel of the Mustang with the seat removed.
